Charles P. Calkins
 (Lot 33, Block 5)

This is the Charles P. Calkins plot. Calkins was a lawyer and was born in Vermont, he came to Grand Rapids in 1836. Here he met and married Mary Ann Hinsdill (also of Vermont). Calkins practiced law for many years, as did one of his sons.

The Calkins law office is the oldest frame structure still standing in Grand Rapids, it is located near the Museum’s east building.
